Yoga Teacher Training in India

India is where yoga began, and training here means learning it in its own setting: in a residential course, with daily practice, classical texts and teachers from a living lineage. Yoga Bhawna Mission is a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School (RYS 200 & 500) in the Garhwal Himalaya, with our main school on the Bhagirathi in Uttarkashi and a second campus in Rishikesh.

Where to train in India

Most teacher trainings in India are held in a handful of places, each with a different character:

Our teacher trainings

The 200 Hour YTTC is a 26-day residential course for a maximum of 20 students, built on classical Hatha yoga. Its 200 hours cover the foundations of yogic thought (Yoga Sutra, Samkhya, Bhagavad Gita and the Hatha texts), asana, pranayama, meditation, mantra and the cleansing practices, anatomy and physiology, teaching method, and supervised practice teaching. Graduates can register with Yoga Alliance as an RYT 200.

The 500 Hour Advanced YTTC is a 50-day residential course for teachers who have completed foundation-level training and want to deepen their practice and teaching. If the hour counts are confusing, our guide to 200 vs 300 vs 500 hour training explains how they fit together.

What the fee includes

Fees cover tuition, study materials, accommodation in rooms with attached bathrooms, sattvic vegetarian meals, and free pick-up and drop from Dehradun airport. For the 200 Hour YTTC, Indian students pay ₹76,000 in a double-sharing room or ₹96,000 in a single room after our 20% scholarship; international students pay 10% more. Our article on yoga teacher training costs in India explains what to compare between schools.

Frequently asked questions

How long is a yoga teacher training in India?

A residential 200 hour course usually runs for about four weeks. Ours is 26 days. Our 500 Hour Advanced YTTC runs for 50 days.

Is a teacher training certificate from India valid abroad?

Yes, if the school is a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School. Yoga Bhawna Mission is registered at RYS 200 and RYS 500, so graduates can register as RYT 200 or RYT 500 and teach internationally.

How much does yoga teacher training in India cost at Yoga Bhawna Mission?

The 200 Hour YTTC is ₹76,000 (double sharing) or ₹96,000 (single room) for Indian students after a 20% scholarship, including accommodation, meals and airport transfers. International students pay 10% more.

Can a beginner join a yoga teacher training?

Yes. Advanced postures are not required for the 200 Hour YTTC. A regular practice for a few months beforehand and the discipline to follow a residential schedule are what matter most.

Which is better for teacher training, Rishikesh or Uttarkashi?

Rishikesh is easier to reach and livelier; Uttarkashi is higher in the Himalaya and much quieter. We teach at both, and the syllabus and certification are the same.
