Malasana is a deep squat with the heels down and the hands together at the chest. It opens the hips and strengthens the feet and ankles.

How to do Malasana

  1. Stand with the feet a little wider than the hips, toes turned slightly out.
  2. Bend the knees and lower the hips toward the floor.
  3. Bring the palms together at the chest.
  4. Press the elbows against the inner knees to lengthen the spine.
  5. Hold for 5 breaths.

Coming out of the pose

  1. Place the hands on the floor and straighten the legs, or sit down.
